Retired Couple Show They Are A Perfect Pair By Coordinating Their Daily Outfits
Great love stories like The Princess Bride, 10 Things I Hate About You, and The Notebook all grabbed the hearts of its audience because of the love the main characters of each tale feel for each other. Although each story features some grand gesture that shows the depth of feeling the main characters feel for one another, in real life, we show our partners we care with the simplest everyday things. For Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon, their simple gesture of love is matching outfits; they’re a Japanese couple who’s married for 41 years, and in the years of their married life, they’ve managed to coordinate their outfits daily as well as their names are coordinated. To them, this isn’t a difficult task but takes teamwork; they’ve been uploading their outfits to their Instagram page, and these two are definitely relationship goals!

Hogwarts Students
Many couples often coordinate their costumes with their partners on Halloween. You and your partner could dress up as Princess Peach and Mario, Joker and Harley Quinn, Mickey and Minnie, or Superman and Wonder Woman. There are hundreds more options!
Alternatively, you could dress up as Hogwarts’s newest students just as Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon did; they even matched their socks! This witch and wizard outfit would definitely be the center of attention at the Halloween party they attended.
Christmas Outfit
Christmas is another holiday that couples often coordinate their outfits for; as long as you know your Christmas colors, it’s relatively easy to match with your partner. Traditional Yuletide colors are red and green, but white, blue, or black are perfectly acceptable.
Both Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon wore bright red inner layers and black sweaters as well as accessories, with minor hints of white; the touch of white comes from their collars and their hair. The Bon/Pon couple looks smart and cute in this Christmas outfit!
Plus One
While Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon were picking matching outfits for Christmas, they didn’t forget to include their daughter! She can be seen in a bright red dress just like her mother’s; their daughter accessorized with a leather jacket, beret, shoes, and sunglasses, all in black.
Fun fact: Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon started posting their outfits on their daughter’s Instagram account. The pictures received much positive feedback; the comment sections completely blew up! Then the Japanese couple decided to open an Instagram account of their own.
Another Christmas Outfit
This outfit seems more Christmassy than the one above as it includes more of the colors and elements we associate with the holiday. They even put up a Christmas tree to make it more festive! They really know how to get into the spirit.
The couple is wearing a red and white checkered shirt; Mrs. Pon paired her shirt with a red sweater while Mr. Bon opted for a green sweater. They both opted for black bottoms. The look was completed with red socks and black shoes.
Traditional Outfits
The easiest way to wear matching outfits with your partner is with traditional costumes; for every traditional outfit, there’s one for the ladies and one for the men. Although this is a great couple outfit idea, it may not be practical for everyday wear.
Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon put on Hanboks, which are traditional Korean clothes from the Joseon dynasty. Hanboks are known to be beautiful, and many couples opt for this matching outfit for photoshoots. They donned these outfits on a trip to South Korea.
They Love Blue
Coordinating outfits may be tricky, especially if you’re just deciding to give it a go. Therefore, it is important that you start with plain colors and clothing items; the trick is to keep it simple. Observe how Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon nailed it with this matching blue outfit of theirs.
Mrs. Pon wore a plain blue dress while Mr. Bon chose a blue sweater and white pants; his white pants match her white collar. To coordinate further, they both chose matching bags with their initials printed on the bag in blue. Adorable!

This next Bon/Pon outfit is also a plain blue outfit. However, the Japanese couple’s daughter joined in to match her parents this time. Mrs. Pon is wearing a simple blue dress, with black shoes and white socks to match her white collar.
Mr. Bon and his daughter are both wearing plain blue tops, white bottoms, blue socks, and black shoes. Their daughter was further accessorized with a white bracelet and a black bag; she even put on bright red lipstick like her mother’s.
Blue and White Again
White goes well with almost any color, so if you’re unsure how to coordinate colors with your partner to create a stylish matching outfit, try to play around with white clothing items. For example, try white and blue. Our favorite matching pair uses this combo a lot!
Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon both chose to go with white tops and dark blue bottoms; Mrs. Pon’s dark blue dress has white polka dots that match her top perfectly. However, they went in a different direction for their socks; Mr. Pon decided to coordinate with his pants while his wife decided otherwise.
Knitted Sweaters
As mentioned above, white is an easy color to incorporate in your outfits; another color that goes really well with white is grey, which is the theme the Bon/Pon couple has gone with for this ensemble; the theme matches their hair too!

Mr. Bon, in contrast, started with a checkered shirt in dark blue and paired that with a green sweater that matches Mrs. Pon’s dress. Then, he finished off the outfit with a matching dark blue blazer. They are quite dashing!
Neutral Outfit
Alternatively, you could start coordinating neutral clothing items, which are pretty easy to match. Just look at how Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon took black, white, and beige clothing items and turned them into a beautifully matched outfit. It isn’t precise, but it is perfect.

Speaking of neutral outfits, this is another one of Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon’s neutral couple ensembles. It is constructed of merely black and white elements, which is a great combination and your best friend when you want something that will perfectly complement you both.
Both Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon are wearing white shirts with black coats paired with black pants and shoes. For a pop of color, we can see the red socks on both of their feet. They match Mrs. Pon’s lipstick!
Winter Wonderland
Winter outfits, in our opinion, are somewhat challenging to pair because the pieces need to keep us warm while being stylish. Luckily, the difficulty of styling winter outfits doesn’t stop Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon! They are pros, and we hope to learn from their impeccable style.
The Bon/Pon couple are seen wearing the same white sweater; of course, there are extra layers underneath to keep them warm. The Japanese couple chose the same coat but in different colors to complete the look. Mrs. Pon stated that they both love red and blue, and they love using them both!
Bit of Beige
It seems like the Bon/Pon couple loves their plaid; they chose a similar outfit to the one above, adding a beige coat for a day out in the wintry city. We can’t see it properly, but we have a feeling Mr. Bon’s backpack matches his wife’s purse.
You’ll notice that the Japanese couple is literally matching head to toe, from the same gray colored hair to the same round glasses, to carefully coordinated outfits, to the same beige coats, to matching shoes and bags. We give them an A++!
Yellow-Green Plaid
Mrs. Pon says that they usually coordinate outfits that match the places they would be visiting for the day. In this case, one of their destinations that day was a train station, and their yellow and green plaid outfit matched it quite well!
Again, Mr. Bon’s shirt matches with his wife’s dress. They both look good in bright yellow, which can be a tricky color. They donned simple jackets, shoes, glasses, and bags; Mr. Bon even wore black pants for this outfit. Peep their matching glasses!
Location Matching
We mentioned that the Bon/Pon couple would often plan for their outfits to match their surroundings; this outfit clearly shows that. This picture was taken outside a café which matches the couple. We can’t help but wonder if they happen to find perfectly matching patterns or if Mrs. Pon makes them.
That black and white pattern is on point! We love that Mrs. Pon chose to wear a skirt that matches her husband’s shirt. It gives a little variety but stays true to the theme. Mr. Bon’s gray pants fit perfectly with the day’s color motif.
An Adventure
The couple doesn’t p[ercectly match their surroundings here, but they do fit in. The polka dots on Mrs. Pon look fabulous, and as always, her sweet smile lights up the photo. Again, we see they didn’t go for 100% matching outfits.
Mrs. Pon is wearing all-black attire with a black and white polka-dotted vest layered on top while Mr. Bon wears a greyish top with pants, jacket, and shoes, all in black; he is also seen carrying a black and white bag with dots.
Location Matching Again
This picture is taken by the sea. To match the sea and the beautiful sky, the couple chose blue as the theme of this outfit, and what goes well with blue? White and black, of course! And we must say, they nailed it yet again.
Mrs. Pon’s outfit is a blue and white checkered blouse paired with a dark blue skirt, blue socks, white jacket, and white shoes. Mr. Bon’s outfit, on the other hand, is a dark blue top paired with a pair of white pants, light blue jacket, and black shoes.
Florals
For this particular occasion, the Bon/Pon couple took their picture in front of some stunning flowers; they decided to go with a floral ensemble for the day to match the background. If any couple can pull off a matching floral look, it’s Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon!
Mr. Bon is again wearing his wardrobe staple – a dress shirt in a greyish floral print paired with a pair of white pants; Mrs. Pon is also wearing a classic item in her wardrobe – a dress in the same pattern as her husband, paired with a white bag.

As mentioned above, Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon really do love plaid; they’re seen, once again, in a checkered outfit, but in black and white with hints of blue this time. Mrs. Pon opted for a black and white checked dress and finished with a blue blazer.
Mr. Bon, however, ditched his white sweater for a matching blue blazer as a subtle touch to the look. Although there’s a slight difference spotted aside from the shades of blue they chose; Mrs. Pon chose a pair of white shoes whereas Mr. Bon chose black ones.
Blue, White Checkered
Here’s yet another checkered outfit from the Bon/Pon couple! Mrs. Pon chose a blue and white plaid skirt paired with a white blouse; she put a dark blue blazer that matches her husband’s on top to keep her from freezing.
In contrast to Mrs. Pon, Mr. Bon stayed with his usual button-up, a blue and white checkered shirt to match his wife’s skirt topped with a dark blue blazer to match his wife’s, and a pair of jeans. As usual, their hair, glasses, and shoes match too!
Pop of Red
This outfit is similar to the one above, but with hints of red; we’re getting Christmassy vibes from this! Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon started with a favorite item of theirs – the black and white checked shirts. For the hint of red, Mr. Bon chose a red sweater while Mrs. Pon wore a red flowy skirt.
They both completed the look with black elements; black coats, shoes, socks, glasses for both of them, and a pair of black pants for Mr. Bon. Many users are blown away by their fabulous style, and we can totally relate!
Blue, white, plus one
Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon’s daughter seldom appears in their pictures, but for this particular outfit, we’re happy she did. The couple is seen in a blue and white checkered top, a plain dark blue bottom, and bright red socks; Mrs. Pon matched her purse to her socks too!
Their daughter, in contrast, is dressed in a plain dark blue dress, accessorized with a blue and red scarf, red belt, and white earrings, bracelet, and purse; she even wore red socks just like her parents did. What a loving family!
Checkered Shirts
We know that Mr. Bon’s staple wardrobe piece is a dress shirt that matches the theme they’re going for, but it’s rare that we see Mrs. Pon in an attire that’s as similar to her husband’s as on this occasion.
Both Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon are wearing a dark green and blue checkered shirt with beige pants and black shoes; we must say, Mrs. Pon looks astonishing in this attire, and we’d definitely like to see more of her in these shades!
38th Anniversary
For Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon’s 38th wedding anniversary, the loving couple, of course, celebrated by coordinating their outfits with their favorite pattern – plaid! Both of them are wearing their usuals – a dress shirt for Mr. Bon and a dress for Mrs. Pon.

39th Anniversary
The following year, the Bon/Pon couple decided to celebrate their anniversary with a classic black and white checkered outfit. They are again seen in their wardrobe staples – a snazzy dress shirt for Mr. Bon and a casual dress for Mrs. Pon.
Both of their wardrobe staples match the theme they’re going for, a black and white theme. To add a pop of color, Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon both wore red socks; Mrs. Pon put on her signature lipstick to match her socks.
41st Wedding Anniversary
They ditched their favorite pattern for their 41st wedding anniversary but stayed with their wardrobe staples, and we cannot forget their classic white hair and round glasses. They are even sitting in the same chairs as in previous anniversary pictures.
They chose to go with stripes for their 41st anniversary; Mrs. Pon is wearing a dress while Mr. Bon wears – you guessed it! – a dress shirt with plain black pants. The smiles on their faces just show how happy this relationship is!
Stripes!
We see the Bon/Pon couple again in stripes rather than their usual checkered attires for a change. They are dressed comfortably for a relaxing day out in the park. Mrs. Pon, as usual, is wearing a dress, and this time it’s bright red.
To match her husband’s attire, she wore a black and white striped jacket; her husband’s outfit is a simple black and white long-sleeved top paired with a simple pair of jeans. Mrs. Pon’s bright red dress helps her stand out from the background of green.
Doll Matching
The Japanese couple has taken their outfit coordination to the next level by matching their outfits as well as their dolls’ outfits. For Mr. Bon and his doll, they chose a blue and white striped shirt paired with beige pants and a dark blue jacket.
Mrs. Pon and her doll opted for a red and white striped shirt paired with a dark blue jacket and the same beige pants as her husband and his doll’s; she even put on red socks for herself and her Mini-Mrs. Pon to further match Mini-Mr. Bon.
Black, White Striped
Here’s another Bon/Pon matching outfit that involves stripes; in this outfit, the Japanese couple matches head to toe with a blue shirt underneath a black and white striped clothing, paired with dark blue jeans folded at the bottom. Too perfect!
The loving couple threw on matching beige coats and their staple matching round glasses to complete the look. We know that red socks are a staple for Mrs. Pon, and we can’t help but wonder if Mr. Bon has the same red socks underneath too.
Stripes with a Grey Accent
This picture melted our hearts straightaway. Look at those smiles! Here’s another matching striped clothing from the Bon/Pon couple’s closet; we would say that their outfits are pretty similar. Mr. Bon opted for a black and white striped shirt, paired with white pants, a grey blazer, and black shoes.
Mrs. Pon, on the other hand, chose to match her husband’s outfit with a black and white striped shirt, white flowy skirt, grey blazer, grey socks, and black shoes of her own. They look so happy in this picture, and we are having a hard time moving on!
Bright Jackets
They are practically wearing the same outfit; they started with a black and white checkered shirt paired with a pair of neutral pants and black boots. As we know, they love brilliant colors, and they threw on a bright jacket; Mrs. Pon in red and Mr. Bon in blue.
The background of this picture seems neutral, so it was a great idea to wear bright colors to contrast the rocks. This way, Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon would stand instead of blending in. Although we doubt anyone would miss them even in their neutral ensembles!
Upside Down Matching
Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon often wear clothing items of the same colors; for example, if Mrs. Pon is wearing a red dress, Mr. Bon would be wearing a red top. However, this is not the case here; their outfit coordination is upside down.
Mr. Bon chose a dark green shirt paired with dark blue pants. Instead of following Mr. Bon’s outfit choice exactly, Mrs. Pon chose a dark blue blouse paired with a flowy dark green skirt. The colors are coordinated perfectly, and they chose the same white shoes.
Reverse Black and White
Here’s another one of the Japanese couple’s outfit coordination that is inverted. We love this fun way of matching! In this picture, Mr. Bon is wearing a white shirt with black dots; he paired it with classic black pants and shoes.
As opposed to Mr. Bon’s white top and black bottoms, Mrs. Pon chose to wear a black blouse with white dots; she then matched that with a flowy white skirt, a black bag, and black socks along with black shoes.
Opposite Matching
Here’s another oppositely matched outfit from the gorgeous couple; Mrs. Pon is wearing a bright red skirt, dark blue top, and a cream-colored coat. She then accessorized with dark blue socks that match her top and black shoes that complement her black bag.
Mr. Bon chose a bright red top with a cream-colored pair of pants; he then layered a dark blue coat and completed the look with some black shoes. Even though the couple isn’t wearing identical items, they are still beautifully coordinated.
2020 New Year Outfit
In Asian countries, it’s traditional to dress in red when celebrating the New Year. Both Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon are dressed in red in this new year’s post; they are wearing a bright red sweater with striped clothing underneath.
If we remember, we saw this shirt and dress earlier in an anniversary post. We bet if we could zoom in close enough, we would find that the buttons on their sweater are the same. They can really rock that shade of red!
Day at Universal Studios
Universal Studios is a popular theme park situated in Osaka, Japan; most of its rides are outdoors, so it’s crucial that you dress in comfortable outfits that can keep out the cold during winter. Our Bon/Pon couple did exactly this, in addition to matching with each other!
Again, Mrs. Pon is dressed in a bright red dress paired with a coat that matches her husband’s. Mr. Bon also pulled out the sweater he wore for the New Year post. They both posed in front of the Universal Studios globe, a popular photo spot.
Hiking Outfit
Even when the Japanese couple is hiking, they don’t forget to coordinate their outfits and gear. Mr. Bon is wearing a black and white striped top paired with a pair of greyish hiking shorts, a blue hat, and black hiking boots.
Mrs. Pon, similar to her husband, is wearing a white and black striped top paired with the same greyish hiking shorts and black hiking boots. Differing from her husband, she opts for a red hat; their hiking sticks match their hats.
Least Matching Outfit
This may be the least coordinated of all the Bon/Pon outfits. In this one, Mrs. Pon is wearing a polka-dotted black and white dress, paired with a red jacket, red socks, and black shoes; not forgetting her staple white hair and round glasses, of course.
Mr. Bon, however, is carrying a polka-dotted black and white bag (which we saw earlier), and is wearing a white shirt paired with a jacket similar to his wife’s in blue color and some white shoes. Their hair and glasses are indeed matching as always.
Out for a Ride
Well, since we’ve mentioned the least matching outfit, it would only be fair to mention one that matches perfectly. The Japanese couple is seen wearing striped long-sleeved shirts. The yellow life jackets made their outfits even more excellently coordinated.
They made the right outfit choice for this particular location; seeing that the background is quite bright, they went with neutral outfits, which is actually a very smart decision. The colorful life jackets contrast the green and pink very nicely. This photo is spectacular!
Second Most Matching Outfit
We know we’ve already voted for the most matching outfit from the Bon/Pon duo’s wardrobe, but this particular outfit is running a close second; the couple is wearing the exact same outfit, with the only difference being in the color of their coats.
They’re both wearing a blue shirt with a white sweater with blue and red stripes layered on top; they paired their colorful tops with a simple black bottom, socks, and shoes. Mr. Bon then chose a blue coat to complete his look, whereas Mrs. Pon chose a reddish-pink one.
Red, White Checkered
For a trip to the pet store, Mr. Bon and Mrs. Pon both chose to go with a red checkered outfit. Mr. Bon opted for a red plaid shirt paired with a white sweater on top to keep him from freezing. To finish the look, he threw on some black shoes and jeans.
Mrs. Pon, on the other hand, chose an identical red checkered dress paired with the white cardigan we saw earlier. Then, she finished her look with black shoes and bag to match Mr. Bon’s black shoes. But where is Mr. Bon’s cat?
Matching Coats and Scarf
Don’t worry if you haven’t quite grasped the idea of coordinating your outfits, one very simple way to match your partner’s outfit during winter is matching only your coats and scarf, just like the Bon/Pon couple did in this one.
They’re both wearing the same coats, which are buttoned all the way up; as a result, their inner outfits wouldn’t show, so they seem to be matching. They’ve had a few decades together to work on this, and we all hope to be like them one day!
