35+ Outfits That Show Us Why The Princess Of Wales Is The Queen Of Style

By Jhoana C

Being compared to the late Princess Diana in terms of style, grace, class, sophistication, and elegance is daunting, but Kate Middleton, the new Princess of Wales, can hold her own. The likely next queen consort became a member of the royal family when she married Prince William in 2011, and since then, she has given birth to three children and attended countless functions, charity events, and galas, always in her signature style.

Suffice it to say that whatever Kate wears sells like hotcakes—that’s how much women want to emulate her and want to look like her. From her expensive couture gowns to her high-street style, women can’t get enough of her and are always on the lookout for whatever she steps out in. Here we have some of the most stylish outfits that women all over the world want to replikate.

Her iconic wedding dress

The Duchess of Cambridge has made it quite clear to everyone that she is a woman with an inimitable style, and that’s evident from the day she married into the royal family. She wed Prince William in 2011 and wore a dress by English designer Sarah Burton.

Made of satin and lace, the dress and its maker were not announced until Kate stepped out of the car to enter the hallowed grounds of Westminster Abbey. Countless replicas of the dresses were sold and it was on display at Buckingham Palace during the summer exhibition.

She looks lovely even in green

While most of us would look like ogres when wearing green, Kate Middleton lets it be known that she is more than just a mere mortal while donning a green dress and looking ravishing in it. If you ever need inspiration for a holiday look, you’re staring at it.

Made by designer Solace London, the bright green dress was paired with an emerald choker worth an estimated $15 million. It’s a family heirloom that was worn by Princess Diana herself as a headband in 1985. However, what impressed us most was that Kate chose to rent the dress instead of buying it.

Making a statement in her purple blouse

Kate is just as comfortable wearing designer gowns and wide-legged trousers, and this photo clearly proves our point. Here she is, making a statement in her eye-catching purple blouse, worth more than $1,000, by Gucci and black trousers by Jigsaw.

To complete the look, she carried a crocodile-print bag from Aspinal of London and wore sensible earrings from Hayley Jones. We can only wish we seemed as laid-back as her, as if it didn’t take any effort to put on such a look.

The lady in red

The Princess of Wales accompanied her husband during a visit to the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards at Combermere Barracks for the St. David’s Day Parade. True to her fashion icon status, she wore a red coat by Alexander McQueen that was nothing but vibrant and head-turning.

She accessorized the red wool statement coat with a crocodile-embossed black bag from Mulberry and black leather gloves from Evica Gloves. Of course, a fascinator was needed for such an occasion, and she donned one from Jules Millinery that had a bow accent.

Dressing for comfort and for a cause

One of her first major projects as the Princess of Wales, the Shaping Us campaign is an awareness program shining the spotlight on the importance of early childhood. Of course, Kate graced the event with her signature style and elegance.

She wore a teal green pussybow blouse with button-up cuffs by Burberry that’s made from 100% silk and trousers by Roland Mouret. Of course, the real stars of the day were the schoolchildren at St. John’s Primary in Bethany Green, with whom the princess chatted about emotions and feelings.

An exquisite dress for a Bahamian reception

Kate can really do no wrong when it comes to fashion, and if there’s anywhere we could sign up to get even half of her style, let us know. We’re sure thousands of people will be making a beeline for that place.

For a reception in the Bahamas, Kate wore a crossover gown in blue made by another London designer who specializes in eveningwear, Phillipa Lepley. She paired the gown with very pricey shoes from Gianvito Rossi and a clutch by Lulu Guinness. Rounding off the look is jewelry from Van Cleef and Arpels.

Polka dots for luck

Kate Middleton can’t stop wearing polka-dot dresses to major events, and her fans, us included, are not complaining. As a matter of fact, we’re always on the lookout so we can replicate her latest stylish outfits. This Emilia Wickstead polka dot dress costs more than £1,000, something not everyone can afford.

Kate wore the dress to the launch of BBC’s Tiny Happy People. It became so sought after that dupes started cropping up everywhere. Thankfully the dupes are more affordable, so even peasants like us can look like royalty for a lot less.

The lady in red

Red, in Western culture, is associated with love, and in Asian culture, it symbolizes good fortune. Kate Middleton is one lucky gal to have both. She doesn’t need to wear red for luck to look stunning. Her Preen dress with an asymmetrical neckline was a show-stopper.

The princess first wore the dress in 2016 when she and Prince William were on a tour of Canada, pairing it with a burgundy and gold clutch. She wore the dress a second time during the annual Kensington Royal Foundation dinner.

Powerful in purple

For the state visit of South African President Ramaphosa, Kate donned a purple coat dress with a matching purple hat made by her go-to designer Emilia Wickstead. The plum tone was appropriate for the autumn season, and the look was completed with coordinating pumps, a handbag, and gloves.

The dress was the envy of women everywhere, featuring peak lapels, long sleeves, and a mid-length knife-pleat skirt. Emilia Wickstead sells a variety of ready-to-wear coats and dresses, but it seems that this particular piece was created just for Kate.

All bundled up in camo

Kate chose to bundle up in camo as she braved the snow to visit the Irish guards in March 2023. It may have been bitterly cold, but the princess wasn’t about to let a little snow get in the way of her royal duties.

Though not as stylish and expensive as her other royal outfits, the princess still looked every inch as regal. Kate wore a British Army MTP smock jacket and a pair of skinny cargo trousers, and kept her feet warm and comfortable in a pair of Berghaus Women’s brown boots.

Bringing summer vibes with her yellow dress

Kate wore a vibrant yellow ensemble bringing summer vibes to the 2018 Wimbledon event which she attended with Prince William. The figure-flattering yellow number by Dolce and Gabbana featured a darted bodice and ruffled sleeves, making it difficult not to look good in it.

Known to repeat some of her key fashion pieces, Kate wore the same outfit in 2020 for a Zoom call with business owners and first responders from South Australia’s Kangaroo Islands who were trying to rebuild their lives after catastrophic bushfires.

Gorgeous in green

Kate likes wearing the color green so much that, at this point, people are speculating that it’s her favorite. She chose a green dress by designer Edeline Lee when she handed the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to Saul Nash.

The belted and high-necked dress has ties on the sleeve and a fit-and-flare skirt. According to data analysts, there was a surge in searches for the aforementioned dress, and it was no surprise that the designer’s name was mentioned often after Kate wore one of her creations.

Another fabulous gown in green

One of the princess’ standout looks is, surprise, surprise, another gown in one of her favorite colors. This sparkling emerald green sequin gown by Jenny Packham was a showstopper during her royal visit to Pakistan in 2019 and again during a November 2021 outing to the Royal Albert Hall.

The timeless dress is the perfect outfit for the Christmas season, and if you’re looking for a dupe, you’re in luck because people on the ‘net have found plenty for a fraction of the £3,500 price tag and that’s music to many people’s ears.

Stunning in a lilac Emilia Wickstead dress

By now, Emilia Wickstead is fast becoming the go-to designer of not only Princess Kate but the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan. The princess was stunning in a lilac number made by the designer when she graced the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit with her presence in October 2018.

Kate must have liked the dress so much because that wasn’t the first time she wore it. The frock made its debut during a royal visit to Hamburg, Germany, and we can see why the princess chose to wear it several times. Her look is completely divine.

White for summer

This is another outfit of Kate’s which we would like to steal. Fresh, laid-back, carefree, and appropriate for the beach, the eyelet dress by Zimmermann has a sophisticated design. We’d wear the heck out of it as often as possible.

To complete the look, she wore a Stuart Weitzman cork and rattan wedges which made jogging at the beach a little more comfortable for Kate. She must like the dress so much that she wore it twice for special occasions.

You can never go wrong with vintage Chanel

Vintage Chanel will make just about anyone look more than polished, and this blue vintage jacket made the Princess of Wales look exceptional. Kate wore the 1995 double-breasted garment courtside while watching the Boston Celtics basketball game with Prince William in 2020.

This was her second time wearing the jacket as she debuted it in October of the same year in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the sports charity event, Coach Core. She opted for slim black trousers and black heels for her ensemble.

A floral dress for a flower show

When going to the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show, it’s appropriate to wear something floral, and that’s exactly what Kate did. She wowed everyone with an emerald green Rochas pleated printed silk midi dress. The dress features a bold white Dahlia print, a fitted waist, and capped sleeves.

The dress originally retailed for more than $2,000, but it was on sale for some time, and we’re pretty sure ladies all over the world got the same dress or something that looked close to it. After all, who wouldn’t want to look like a princess?

Alexander McQueen for the win

Alexander McQueen is another celebrated designer that British royalty turn to when they need original designs that will dazzle the crowd. Kate Middleton has a long-time love affair with the brand, so much so that they designed her wedding gown.

This 10-year-old Grecian-inspired dress was first worn by the princess in 2011 at a BAFTA event in Los Angeles three months after her wedding. It saw the light of day again in 2021 when Kate wore it to the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony.

Making a statement with a bold coat

St. Patrick’s Day Parade calls for something green, and that’s exactly what Kate did—wear something green and bold. In 2020, the princess stepped out in a beautiful coat by Laura Green London and she looked chic with her plaited updo that was covered with a stunning forest green hat.

This woman always looks stunning and put-together, and she would look elegant even with a sack of potatoes on. Granted, she has an army of stylists and people to do her hair, but her innate fashion style is all her own.

A black lace gown for the premiere of War Horse

Kate decided to go dark for the 2012 premiere of the movie War Horse in London, and she wowed everyone with her black lace gown by Temperley London which featured a cream-colored lining. With her dark wavy hair, Mascaro purse, and Jimmy Choo shoes, it was clear that she owned the red carpet.

Yes, she has stylists in her glam squad but you can’t deny that the woman knows her fashion well and we could only look at her helplessly while thinking that the world is unfair. How could she get the looks, the style, and the elegance while leaving nothing for the rest of us?

Another glam floral print dress by Emilia Wickstead

We want nothing but to take a peek at Kate Middleton’s wardrobe or perhaps live in her closet if permitted. Another iconic addition to her wardrobe is this blue floral print long-sleeve dress by Emilia Wickstead. This piece is dubbed “The Aurora.”

You can see why, with the pale blue shirt dress that comes with a buckled belt and cuffed sleeves. It is made from cotton seersucker and embellished with the designer’s signature “rosewood” florals. The royal accessorized the outfit with gold drop earrings and nude wedges.

Polka dot on point

By now, we are willing to believe that Alessandra Rich is the princess’ go-to designer for anything polka dot. The designer must have provided her with a bajillion polka dot frocks for her to choose from because here’s another one!

She stepped out in style for Wimbledon’s day nine in an azure blue polka dot frock which was paired with black and white pumps by Jimmy Choo and a white top-handle bag from Mulberry. You can see on her face that the avid tennis fan were quite happy.

Looking ethereal at the Spectre premiere

Both the Prince and Princess of Wales are supporters of British art and film, so they made it a point to show up to the 2015 premiere of the James Bond film Spectre. To the event, the then-Duchess wore a Jenny Packham dress with sheer sleeves.

Silver accessories and platform shoes by Jimmy Choo heels completed the look. She looked like a goddess and definitely had a license to thrill that night. The cameras obviously pointed her way as photographers happily clicked away. Yes, we know; how can one woman be so lucky?

The £125 “Kate” blouse everyone was talking about

Not only do we want to replicate the princess’ looks when she wears couture gowns, but we are also huge fans of her laid-back and more down-to-earth choices. Sometimes all a lady wants is to wear trousers and comfortable tops.

Image sources:

This long sleeve Whistles blouse ranks high on our list because it comes from a high street chain that mere mortals like us can save up for. Kate first wore the blouse for her engagement photoshoot in 2010 and again for a series of phone calls in 2020.

Polka dot perfection

At this point, our love for Kate and her sartorial choices is boarding on obsession, but who can blame us? She is clearly well ahead of everyone in the game. She has converted a lot of people into polka-dot fans.

This vintage style navy dress from Alessandra Rich with a striking white collar and long sleeves was the talk of the town in 2019 when the princess wore it to Bletchley Park as well as during King Charles’ 70th birthday.

Combining style and comfort

Being a royal means making a lot of public appearances, some very formal and some not so, but most appearances entail being on your feet for hours. Good for Kate that she has found a way to balance style and comfort and we love her all the more for it.

The princess is not above wearing off-the-rack styles. For a school event, she surprised everyone by wearing youthful trainers from Veja, a double-breasted blazer from Zara, a white top, and navy blue trousers. We’re not surprised that Zara’s sales skyrocketed after this outing.

She means business

It must be so good to have an army of designers and stylists at your beck and call. If we had them, would we have even just an ounce of Kate’s style and class? This is another highly-coveted look that women who worked in offices tried to emulate.

This Alexander McQueen crisp crepe jacket costs more than £1,600. She wore it with an ivory sweater underneath and paired it with black trousers from the same designer, and a black belt. She wore her hair down and sported glittering diamond earrings. Oh, to be Kate!

Dazzling in a nude gown

Kate looks exceptional in Jenny Packham’s creations, which many people have observed after seeing her out and about in outfits made by the designer. In 2011, just a few months after her wedding, she went to the ARK Gala in a stunning nude gown by Jenny Packham.

She stepped out in her first public event after becoming Prince William’s wife in a floor-skimming gown with sequin detailing. Staying true to her love of clothes and accessories, she wore coordinating L.K. Bennett heels and had a box clutch in hand.

Making sure she’s warm and toasty

It’s nice to know that Kate is just like us the rest of u,s and on chilly days, she also reaches for her sweaters, albeit the more expensive kind. She favors knitwear from high-end brands like Holland Cooper and she particularly loves their Fair Isle style.

Image sources:

Kate wore the sweater in 2022 while promoting her Christmas Carol Concert. Understandably, it was out of stock shortly thereafter. Luckily for women everywhere, there are a few other Fair Isle styles that look similar to it, so no one missed out on the fashion trend.

A floral dress for a snowstorm

Floral dresses can either become fashion faux pas or the perfect fashion statement and it’s clear to see which category the impeccable style of Kate Middleton belongs to. While visiting the exhibition “Victorian Giants: The Birth of Art Photography,” Kate stepped out in an Orla Kiely dress.

She styled the long-sleeved floral dress with a pair of nude pumps by Gianvito Rossi, a beige clutch by Jimmy Choo, and giant drop earrings by Kiki McDonough. Safe to say that Kate’s cheery dress made the gloomy night much better.

Paying tribute to Scotland in a tartan coat

While hosting a screening of Cruella at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Kate Middleton made sure that she paid tribute to Scotland by wearing a tartan trench coat. The princess paired the belted coat from Holland Cooper with a pair of sapphire earrings said to be borrowed from the queen.

To make the drive-in movie event as authentic as possible, Kate and Prince William even borrowed a Land Rover that once belonged to the late Prince Philip. While in Scotland, they also dropped by St. Andrews where the couple first met as students.

Pregnant and glowing

Kate didn’t let her 7-month baby bump get in the way of her royal duties. She was game and all smiles when she visited the children’s center at Smethwick, but it was her frock which got people talking and women wondering where they could get themselves something similar.

She joined families on a playdate in a frock by Seraphine, a specialist maternity label with a boutique located just around the corner from Kensington Palace. She had worn the same frock before, but no one complained. She looks good in it.

Teal for St. Patrick’s

Kate utilized her signature outfit formula for St. Patrick’s Day but made it more Irish. She and Prince William attended a parade in Aldershot, England, and Kate wore something more festive for the occasion. She wore a teal coatdress by Catherine Walker & Co. with a mock-belted midsection and a high neck.

She made sure her feet were comfortable but stylish in pointy-toed suede pumps in matching color, and she wore a fascinator with tulle ruffles. Of course, the day calls for suitable accessories, so the Princess also had a shamrock brooch and emerald earrings.

Sashaying in a skirt suit

We’d be the luckiest person in the world if we could get our hands on even a quarter of Kate’s wardrobe. She has the most elegant outfits, and this Erdem skirt suit is one of the things we would also like to have.

For a formal occasion at Westminster Abbey, Kate opted for something from Erdem Moralıoğlu’s collections, a navy blue jacquard-print skirt suit with a darted waist jacket and a peplum pleated skirt. Few can carry this style, but Kate does so effortlessly.

A green frock for tea

In yet another power move, Kate donned a dress in her favorite color and captivated the crowd, leaving us gawking and wishing we could be more like her. The princess wore a fabulous olive green gown by Beulah London for tea with the finalists of the Tusk Conservation Awards in 2019.

Also known as the “Yahvi,” the midi-length frock has a flowing skirt, a gathered neck, and delicate buttons. Not as expensive as her other outfits but just as gorgeous, we could wish we looked as stunning as her for afternoon tea.

Beguiling in navy blue

As if Kate needed more help to look fantastic, along comes this power suit comprised of an Alexander McQueen single-breast navy blue blazer jacket and navy blue trousers. Underneath, she wore a white bodysuit from Holland Cooper. It’s the ultimate girl boss look.

Royal fans can expect to spend at least £1,000 for this ensemble but don’t worry if you don’t have pockets as deep as the British royals. There are cheaper dupes everywhere because everyone knows just how much women want to look like Kate.

Red and white houndstooth looks good on her

Aside from her looks, there are a lot of things that work to Kate’s advantage, one of which is her height. She can pretty much get away with wearing anything, including things that would make short people look like total disasters.

An addition to her ever-increasing enviable outfits is this red and white houndstooth print coat which she wore to the friendly game between Wales vs. England in Cardiff. The knee-length double-breasted coat with red glossy buttons comes from Catherine Walker & Co.

She dresses appropriately

Alexander McQueen founded his own label in 1992, and since then, he has earned countless awards. He has gone on to dress Hollywood stars, and he is a favorite of Kate. Who can blame her when she looks divine in his creations?

For a visit to the Imperial War Museum, Kate made sure she was dressed appropriately in an Alexander McQueen military blouse, a navy blue long coat by Catherine Walker, and pumps of the same color from Gianvito Rossi, a favorite footwear brand of the princess.

Pink for the Wimbledon men’s final

Kate is being compared to no less than Princess Diana herself because they share a lot for fashion, and they are both icons in their own rights. We can’t blame people for doing so when you see Kate looking impeccable every time she goes out.

Here she is wearing a Beulah London midi dress that is a favorite among royals. Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary was also seen wearing it in a different color. The dress’ vintage style, cuffed short sleeves, and belted waist complement the princess’ silhouette.

Something red for the festive season

Kate needed something festive but stylish for the Carol Concert she was hosting at Westminster Abbey in 2021, and this sweater from Miu Miu did not fail to deliver. As red as Santa’s suit, it has red and black rose patterns and mother-of-pearl buttons.

It costs £1,350, something that most regular people can’t afford, but if you’re creative, you can easily find a few pieces that look similar to it. It’s not the price tag that impresses us the most about the sweater but the detachable white cotton collar.
